She Just Used An Eye Glitter And Regretted For The Rest Of Her Life
Tiny things could generate big discrepancy in our lives but this time with an unlucky example. Imgur user Erica shared what looked like a casual accident, when some glitter got stuck in her left eye, rupturing the cornea and spreading the infection.
Big amount of pus kept flowing from her eyes and she had to undergo an eye surgery, transplanting the cornea. Haplessly, the surgery failed and Erica had to get her eye eliminated in order to stop the immense pain.
She applied for insurance money to get a prosthetic eye, which her insurance company didn't pay. Anyways, she was supported by people financially and she will soon have the cosmetic portion of the new eye.
Erica's left eye was full of pus and it was very painful and disgusting.
The pus was putting so much stress on the cornea, that it started to change the shape of the eye. She had to wear welding goggles all the time to block light, especially while out.
During the biopsy, a pocket of pus exploded, covering her face and hair too. The doctor then covered her eye with a mesh taken from an amniotic sac and painted it pink with antifungal liquids.
The surgery was pretty "intense and had complications."
It included Corneal cross-linking, meant to strengthen the collagen in all of the swollen areas of the eye. It helped the eyeball not to explode.
She says, " I woke up. Twice. It was supposed to be a twilight sedation thing. Nope. Sedative wore off about halfway through and I woke up screaming and in a panic 'cause HEY, I CAN FEEL YOU SLICING MY EYE. More drugs did nothing. Ended up being put completely under. Woke up from that as well. Didn't panic, just told them I was awake. Anesthesia was super nice and calmed me down and told me My heart rate was burning through all his good drugs. More drugs. Didn't knock me out, but close enough to get the job done. hair all went. The drops and chemicals used to try and save the eye all dripped down into the hair, essentially melting it. It had to get cut. All of it. "
"YO MAMA SO METAL..."
Her medicines and eye drops.
Erica, after the surgery.
Her eye was removed after a few failed cornea transplants.
It also included slicing a part of her eye.
The prosthetic eye has been colored in honey-brown color to match her other natural eye.
"They are saying I am 6-8 weeks away from having the cosmetic portion of the new eye. Also, once the mold is made for it, I can take that mold and have all kinds of cool eyes made. Eye of Sauron, Terminator Eye, Eye of the Tiger... I guess a brush with potential glittery death helps you figure out what you really love and what you don't. "
I'm at peace now, away from all the pain.
She says, "I'm not scowling, I promise. I'm just swollen as hell and my face is scrunched up and taped under This pressure mask. I look rough, but believe it or not, I'm in less pain now after having the eye out than I was before with it in."
"I'm not mad at glitter. This was a freak thing. Yes, my children will wear eye protection more often now. a sense of humor can get you through just about anything. That, and a kick ass family and bunch of friends. It's very "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" over here, except with Puerto Ricans and an Irish/Italian hubby. Do I think glitter should be banned? No. Just wear goggles and gloves when using it to protect your eyes and keep it from getting stuck under your nails where you risk rubbing it into your eyes accidentally. "
